Robustness as the primary requirement

The transportation sector is now heavily dependent on advanced electronics. Even the simplest commercial vehicle is equipped with GPS navigation, and essential safety systems such as ABS and airbags would be unthinkable without modern electronics. Countless other functions are also controlled and monitored by vehicle electronics.

A common feature is that these electronics must be more robust than ordinary consumer products. They must be able to withstand vibrations, temperature fluctuations, and moisture without any problems. For this reason, the Automotive Electronics Council (AEC) was established in the 1990s, a committee that sets standards that components and systems must meet in order to be used in automotive electronics.

Global Electronics B.V. can advise on the application of AEC-qualified components and also offers various other technologies to optimize printed circuit boards for use in the transportation industry. Global can also test designs against the most important electrical standards and requirements applicable to automotive electronics, thereby further increasing the reliability of the end product.

New developments

Demand for automotive electronics has been growing rapidly in recent years, partly due to rapid developments in the field of electric and hybrid vehicles. This applies not only to electronics used in vehicles themselves, but also to supporting technology such as charging systems.

BOM analysis

The purchase of materials is planned on the basis of a BOM. The parts lists serve as a guideline, and the clear step-by-step instructions reduce the risk of errors.

Our suppliers (and EMS companies in general) are global players with billions in turnover. There are more than 100 million components available, with tens of thousands more being added every month.

Surface Mount Technology (SMT)

During the SMT process, components are attached to the printed circuit board by placing the contact pins on top of the board rather than through it, as is the case with Through Hole Technology (THT).
