Impact with Photonics

The interaction between light (photons) and electrons (electronics) forms the basis of photonics. This is a relatively new development in the transmission and reception of data and its processing. This technology will have a major impact on, among other things, the fiber optic network of the future.

One of our customers, who specializes in the development of high-tech photonics hardware, has succeeded in developing a chip the size of a grain of rice that combines multiple optical functions: lasers, switches, and multiplexers. This is a tremendous achievement that Global Electronics B.V. has managed to translate into the corresponding highly advanced hardware. Our high-quality machinery is ready for the future and ready to assemble the hardware of the future!

A world where heat is not an issue when designing silicon data chips?

As data centers become increasingly overloaded, heat is one of the biggest problems facing electrical engineers. In electronic circuits, data is typically transmitted by electron currents flowing through conductors. More data means more "traveling electrons" and therefore more heat.

But what if we could transmit data without the harmful effects of heat on electronic circuits? New research from Eindhoven University of Technology suggests that silicon can emit photons to transmit data—all without the hassle of heat, high energy consumption, and slow communication on chip and from chip to chip.
